The work
Houston Pro Masonry’s chimney restoration service program starts with an exterior inspection and high-pressure washing before repairs. We address the repairs your chimney needs, then finish with a commercial-grade, water-based, breathable masonry sealer.
Most chimney services are quoted based on chimney size. We can provide an estimate from your photos or arrange an in-person visit. We inspect the chimney for cracks, broken, loose, or missing bricks, and open mortar joints. We also check the crown, cap, and flashing for damage and likely water entry points.
Before all repairs, we high-pressure wash the chimney’s exterior to remove organic matter that can hide hairline cracks and to remove loose, deteriorating mortar. This exposes problem areas and prepares the masonry for repairs and sealing.
After washing, we check all bricks for broken, loose, or missing pieces and inspect the mortar for cracks. We reset or replace affected bricks and repair damaged mortar as needed, matching the existing masonry as closely as practical.
Open or eroded mortar joints are cut out and tuckpointed with mortar matched as closely as practical to the chimney.
We inspect the flashing where the chimney meets the roof and recaulk it with NP-1 polyurethane sealant where needed.
When the top of the chimney needs rebuilding, we address that masonry work before applying the final water-repellent treatment.
Depending on its condition, a damaged crown is resurfaced or rebuilt to help shed water away from the chimney.
We inspect the chimney cap and replace it when it is missing, rusted, or damaged.
Finally, we apply a commercial-grade, water-based, breathable masonry sealer with an expected 10-year lifespan. It helps resist rainwater penetration while allowing moisture vapor to escape, so the chimney can still breathe.
